A Creator's Discipline
A creator's journey is never continuous. There is always an upward curve and a downward slope and a little more than a couple of scratches here and there. It is in between those scratches that we would find joy in creation, as the scratches or scribbles are the ones that bring in consistency.
I am on one such journey myself. Post the upward and downward trend, I am currently working on my scribbles only to ensure the consistency of my art. This consistency then builds confidence but also requires courage. The courage has to come from within. The courage to show up no matter what. The courage to fight the fear of the unknown.
When working on an untethered
path, along with courage requires discipline.
The discipline is built over
time. This discipline comes from an understanding that you are on your own and
that no one else can do what you do and how you do it along with the
understanding that no one will push you to do it, but yourself. No one will
take that paintbrush and put it in your hand with a canvas in front of you. You
have to make that move all by yourself. Discipline helps fight that feeling of “maybe
tomorrow or another day.”
To tackle myself discipline, I
have devised a plan to get me going. More like a plan of action. I have drafted
a list of tasks that have to be done every day. No matter how much or for how long,
the task has to be attempted. So, even if I have gotten twenty minutes on the
task I have, at the very least, started the work. This helps me get the job
done, little by little drawing me closer to the big picture.
So, here I go. One day
at a time. One task at a time.
