Liked or not - Let's Create!
We take the time to picture our
works, upload them online onto our website or social media and take the effort to
work on the aesthetics of the post to
ensure that the viewer is intrigued. All of this happens with sense of anxiety
in us, for the post to be likeable. The post is uploaded in an urgency, as though
something would happen, if it doesn’t go online right this moment, like we
would miss a spot. What happens right after that. Do we hit refresh for the
next couple minutes, to check if someone has hit like or has commented on our
post? Is this our evaluation on our work.
The anxiety is inevitable. The wait
for a response seems to be grave. In today’s world where we are not able to wait
until a website loads or enjoy the silence in between the lines, in a song or
go through with an advertisement without hitting skip. We seem to be in a
hurry, in a rush, always waiting for the next big thing to hit us.
As a creator, patience is an inevitable
requirement. We have to wait for the paint to dry, the layers to build, until
we can see the magic that we can create.
For me, focusing on the why,
helps me emphasize on the art. I create for myself. I create to free myself of
all that I hold so close to me. However, that always does not happen. Every now
and then, while in the middle of a piece, I do step back to check if it is appealingly
acceptable. Acceptable to what standards? To the world or to me? To move past
that state, I have to hard push the thought aside and continue to work.
At the end of the day, I do not stop
until I am convinced that I have done my best. How about you?
